Our commitment to sustainability

What is sustainability for Vitafoods?

Sustainability evolves with Vitafoods as we grow and progress as a community. As we work together to increase our positive environmental, social and economic contribution, we have the opportunity to support the nutraceutical industry in achieving its own sustainability goals through enabling the right connections and access to the knowledge they need to help solve the big challenges in the sector.

“Sustainability success doesn’t happen overnight, but a mindset change can start your journey towards it."
Chris Lee, Managing Director, Vitafoods Team

At Vitafoods Europe we are working towards:

Sustainable development

Providing knowledge and insights that address some of the industry’s greatest challenges and championing stories of sustainability success through content available at free-to-attend theatres.

Carbon offsetting

Your contribution towards purchasing carbon offsets throughout the event's online registration will support projects regeneration projects, empowering communities around the world.

Waste reduction

Implementing the Better Stands programme and other waste reduction initiatives to eradicate most of the waste generated by the event, including build, catering and promotional items.

Community empowerment

Implementing Health & Safety measures to ensure your safety if you decide to join us in-person whilst providing an accessible virtual platform to stay connected, share knowledge and do business.

Support tea plantation workers during the COVID-19 crisis

We've joined forces with our purposeful partner, the Global Alliance for Improved Nutrition (GAIN), to support their vision of a world without malnutrition. Help us raise funds to support tea plantation workers and their families during this period of this crisis.

Your contribution can help ensure nutrition security for these families.

Sustainable initiatives

The role we play within the industry and the growing interest in sustainability from our visitors and exhibitors, as well as to our market, motivate us to continually grow our sustainable efforts. In 2018, we started:

  • Working closely with our suppliers to minimise any negative impact on the local community.
  • Designing features to inspire sustainable development at a business and personal level with networking events promoting wellbeing within the workplace through roundtables and wellbeing sessions.
  • Powering the event with renewable energy.
  • Ensuring the carpet, signage, lanyards and paper used at the event is made from recycled materials and it is recycled or reused at the end of the event.
  • Ensuring our catering is local, organic and seasonal, and uses minimal packaging. Catering to different dietary and lifestyle choices, including a restaurant serving only plant-based options.
  • Partnering with a local charity to convert leftovers from catering into biofuels.
  • Providing recycling bins for both for exhibitors and visitors on the show floor.

In 2019, Vitafoods Europe achieved the prestigious ISO 20121 Sustainability Certificate and the Informa Markets Award Excellence in Sustainability.

Throughout the pandemic, we continued to serve our community with the launch of a series of digital event solutions that inspired and enabled sustainable development through enhanced connection opportunities and access to content covering key topic areas.

Expert presentations focused on the sustainable recovery of the health & nutrition industry, innovation in the post-COVID world, sustainable sourcing, racial injustice and climate change, among others.

Watch some of these sessions on-demand through our content platform, Vitafoods Insights.

With a vision to bring 'more heath to more people' and our commitment to help foster meaningful connections, we are partnered with The Global Alliance for Improved Nutrition (GAIN), working closely with their SUN Business Network (SBN). GAIN is driven by a vision of a world without malnutrition, in which all people have access to and consume nutritious and safe food. Their mission is to advance nutrition outcomes by improving the consumption of nutritious and safe food for all people, especially the most vulnerable to malnutrition.

Laurène Aubert, nutrition growth lead and global partnerships manager at GAIN and the SBN, presented Sustainable CPGs: Maintaining commitments & protecting profits at Vitafoods Virtual Expo, the first of many collaborations.

While virtual events provided access to more people regardless of their location, digital accessibility needed to be a consideration. All our pre-recorded sessions and videos display English subtitles to enhance inclusiveness and accessibility, to provide new audiences with knowledge and networking opportunities.

Moving forward, we will keep adapting and improving our sustainability commitment. Earlier this year, we officially became one of the 25 SBN (SUN (Scaling Up Nutrition) Business Network global members as a part of the world’s leading private sector focused nutrition initiative. By joining SBN, we hope to continue contributing to a collective voice and community for nutrition, receive support to foster workshop nutrition commitments and develop a common advocacy agenda with other businesses to influence key global processes and events.

“We believe the event organisers care as much about sustainability as we do, and it is great to know our passion is shared with the Vitafoods Europe team.”
