Jordan Hospital, YDE to build 4.7MWp solar plant

"Jordan Hospital has signed an agreement with UAE-based Yellow Door Energy (YDE) for the development and operation of a 4.8MWp solar power plant.Meroun Green Solutions Co will oversee the construction and implementation of the project.
The partnership forms part of the hospital’s efforts to reduce its CO2 footprint by transitioning to electricity generated from renewable energy sources.Ahmad Khattab, managing director of Jordan Hospital, said: “As part of the hospital’s energy diversification strategy, we are looking at meeting our electricity needs through power generated by natural resources and, in doing so, reducing our carbon footprint and greenhouse gas emissions.“ The highly anticipated project is expected to encourage other public and private sector companies to generate renewable energy and rely on it in the future.
The agreement for the development and operation of the solar power plant was signed by Dr Abdullah Al-Bashir, general manager of Jordan Hospital, and Jeremy Crane, chief executive officer of YDE, in Amman. Commenting on the deal, Crane said: “Jordan has always been at the forefront of countries seeking to make the most of natural resources and, through its investments in this area, the kingdom has made remarkable progress.“Yellow Door Energy is committed to enabling companies to save energy and reduce their electricity cost, and is proud to be part of the further development of this approach in Jordan.
In addition to helping reduce operating costs, the project will enable the hospital to serve as a successful model for promoting renewable energy projects in Jordan and abroad.”Sameeh Abushanab, CEO of Meroun Green Solutions, added: “This project, covering over [6.7ha], comes in response to the growing demand for electricity locally. The project will provide the hospital with a capacity of 4.7MWp, and is expected to be fully operational by 2017.” YDE’s operations are fully compliant with Jordan and Dubai’s net metering and wheeling regulations, which are designed to allow companies to take advantage of solar power. Jordan Hospital’s solar power plant is scheduled to be connected to the grid by 2017."
